Finish a clean master first
The clean master is the highest-quality approved edit without platform watermark, interface stickers, destination-specific music or burned-in call to action. Keep mixed audio plus separate dialogue, music and effects when practical; retain the caption file, thumbnail frame, rights record and project archive. A clean master is not necessarily publishable. It is the controlled source from which destination versions can be made without downloading and recompressing a public post.
Write three version cards
For each destination, specify opening, duration, crop, caption treatment, title or post copy, final action, link path, disclosures and audio source. A hypothetical software tutorial might use: YouTube Shorts with a searchable question and related long video; Instagram Reels with a result-first opening and profile action; TikTok with a direct demonstration and a comment prompt. The body can share proof, but each card changes only what the platform and audience job require. This is a planning example, not a claim that one version will perform better.
Adapt the evidence, not only the wrapper
Check that the proof survives each crop and caption position. If the first frame changes, make sure it still leads honestly into the same result. Rewrite references such as “link below” for the actual destination. Remove platform UI and watermarks from source footage. Do not shorten by deleting a condition or disclosure. YouTube’s current Shorts discovery guidance discusses viewer choice, duration and satisfaction signals, but it does not prescribe one universal edit; platform-native adaptation remains a test.
Clear music per version
Do not assume a sound selected inside one app travels with the exported video. TikTok’s July 2026 Commercial Music Library guidance says its commercial sounds can be filtered by region and placement and used for organic or paid TikTok content. That describes TikTok use, not a cross-platform synchronization license. Keep the master silent or use audio separately cleared for all intended uses, then add platform-library music only to the version and scope it covers. Save the track, source, region, placement, date and evidence of permission.
Release from a version matrix
Before upload, compare filenames and hashes or durations against the card, preview overlays, verify captions, test links and confirm the correct music and disclosure. Record publish URL and date only after publishing is authorized. Review analytics by destination rather than combining raw views, because surfaces and counting differ. The system reduces repeated editing but does not mean simultaneous posting is always wise. Staggering versions can preserve review capacity and help isolate obvious packaging failures, while seasonal or coordinated campaigns may require a shared release window. If one version requires a factual correction, trace whether the same line exists in the master and every sibling export; fix the source before making another derivative.
Put it into practice
Sources & limits
Platform interfaces, upload features and music catalogs vary by account, region and time; rights must be confirmed for each destination and paid or client use.
