Run a Music and Sponsorship Release Check Before Posting

Verify the exact account, platform, usage, disclosure, and evidence path before a sponsored short moves from approved edit to public release.

Identify the commercial use

Mark whether the post promotes the creator’s own business, a client, an affiliate product, a gifted item, or a paid sponsor. Record every destination: organic account, partner account, paid ad, creator-handle ad, website, and future cutdown. A platform sound available during editing is not proof that all those uses are licensed.

Verify music for the exact account and post

TikTok says content promoting a brand, product, or service should use its Commercial Music Library because licenses for music outside that library do not cover commercial use; outside music requires confirmation that the needed licenses were obtained (TikTok Support). Instagram’s help page required login during our final source check, so this guide does not certify its current music-library permissions. Check the current terms through your own authorized account or obtain separately documented rights; hold the post if the permitted use remains unclear. Check the live account, region, track, and intended use at release.

Preserve the evidence packet

Save the track title, source library, account type, platform, date checked, license or terms link, receipt if applicable, project version, and approved destinations. If the team supplied original music, record who controls the composition and recording and what uses were granted. Do not rely on “royalty-free” as a complete scope description. Escalate ambiguous, cross-platform, broadcast, or paid-media rights to a qualified rights professional.

Make the commercial relationship visible

The FTC says material connections should be disclosed clearly and with the endorsement, not hidden behind a profile page or a click to “more” (Federal Trade Commission). Put a plain-language disclosure in the video when needed and in the visible caption area, then use the platform’s own commercial-content control. TikTok currently requires its content disclosure setting for posts promoting a brand, product, or service (TikTok Support). A platform label does not automatically satisfy every jurisdiction or context.

Run the release gate

Have one named reviewer answer: Is the final export the approved version? Is the music source valid for this account, region, platform, and paid or organic use? Are sponsor claims substantiated? Is the relationship disclosed in understandable language? Are partner tags and platform controls enabled? Do links and dates work? Is the evidence packet stored? A “no” or “unknown” pauses release; it does not invite a guess.

Version the approval. Name the export, store its checksum or stable file identifier, and attach the completed gate to that version. If the edit, soundtrack, caption, sponsor claim, territory, or media plan changes, reopen the affected checks. An approval for an organic TikTok post should not silently travel with the asset into an Instagram ad or a client’s website montage.

This checklist is general operational information, not legal advice. Music rights, endorsement law, contracts, and platform features differ by territory and facts and can change after review. Recheck reused assets for every new destination or media buy.

Instagram music-library permission was not independently accessible at final review; no current license conclusion is made here.
